This great German movie takes us back to East-Germany at the time of communism. In 1984 an agent of the secret police (the Stasi) has to observe a German writer and his girlfriend. He soon finds out that something was going on, but he also notices a change within himself: he gets emotionally involved.

Das Leben der Anderen won the Oscar for best Foreign Language movie. It also received a BAFTA award, as well as a Golden Globe. Now it is the #56 on the IMDb top 250.

Downfall - a great German movie about the fall of Hitler

Probably one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2004. It did very well in the movie theatres of Europe. Also the reviews were very positive. The actor that played Adolf Hitler looked so much like him that when he went on the cover of a magazine it caused quite a commotion in Germany. The film  revolves around the notes of the secretary of Hitler. In these notes he vividly describes the last days of the German army command in the bunker in Berlin. The downfall of the Third Reich.

A very popular German movie by Wolfgang Petersen. One of the most-well known German movies. It is the story about the crew on a German Submarine in 1942, when the germans were fighting the English on the water. The movie was nominated for 6 oscars, but strangely enough did not win anything. It did, however, win a whole lot of German Film Awards.

Der Himmel uber Berlin got an exceptional amount of awards withing German (The German Film Award, and the Bayern Film award). Internationally it got recognized by a nomination for a BAFTA award. Wim Wenders won a best directors award at Cannes.
