The Worst of 2016: Films That Didn’t Live Up To High Expectations

The year 2016 is coming to its end, and it has been a great year for cinephiles. But obviously, not every movie lived up to our expectations. We usually sum up our favorites, but we think it’s only fair to share our biggest disappointments too. Please note these are just our humble opinions. You are free to disagree with us wholeheartedly! So here we go, in no specific order, the biggest misses of the year…

Louder Than Bombs (Joachim Trier)

Why we didn’t like it: Trier’s first two movies are amongst our all-time favorites of the century, which makes this even more heartbreaking to say, but Louder Than Bombs is a mess. An European auteur giving a shot at American Suburban Dysfunctional Family Drama? There are simply so many similar movies that were done better. Where ‘Oslo, 31 August’ excelled in subtlety, Louder Than Bombs’ plot is way too ambitious and unsatisfying.
