Hou Hsiao-hsien’s ‘The Assassin’ will be Taiwan’s entry for the Oscars

Hsiao-hsien, known for contemplative Slow Cinema gems like Three Times and Le Voyage du Ballon Rouge, presented his latest film at the Cannes Festival earlier this year.  The director, who was one of the key figures of the Taiwanese New Wave, was honored with the Best Director Award at that festival. The Assassin is a martial arts film set in the ninth century during the Tang-dynasty. Here is the smooth trailer.
