The Worst of 2016: Films That Didn’t Live Up To High Expectations

Why we didn’t like it: Yet again a disappointing adaptation of a best-seller. Colm Toibin’s ‘Brooklyn’ was a beautiful and unsentimental account of a young Irish girl moving to New York in the 1950’s. Director Crowley (‘Boy A’) and novelist/screenwriter Nick Hornby joined forces, but turned ‘Brooklyn’ in a shallow and kitschy little melodrama, trying to hard to revive the feel of 1950’s Technicolor cinema. If only Todd Haynes would’ve directed this one…
