The Worst of 2016: Films That Didn’t Live Up To High Expectations

Juste la fin de monde (Xavier Dolan)

Why we didn’t like it: French-Canadian director Xavier Dolan directed a whole bunch of films already, and he’s only 27. From his surprising debut ‘I Killed My Mother’ to, most recently, ‘Mommy’: every single film was just downright great. So of course we were expecting lot from this one, not in the last place because he casted some of France’s best actors. ‘Juste la fin de monde’ is an adaptation of a play, evolving around a terminally ill writer who’s trying to tell his family he’s dying. His choice for a more intimate visual style (LOTS of close ups) in combination with characters that simply got too many lines, makes ‘Juste la fin du monde’ a suffocating and exhausting sit.
