The Worst of 2016: Films That Didn’t Live Up To High Expectations

Suicide Squad (David Ayer)

Why we didn’t like it: DC Superhero movies became a bit of  a bore, so hearing about the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ project didn’t really excite us initially. Then the trailer came out, which looked actually pretty great. Would ‘Suicide Squad’ really distinguish itself from all those soulless sequels? Well, it did and it didn’t. The film’s humor, stylish shots and overall nihilism are admirable. But unfortunately, the plot is incredibly shallow. During several scenes, one starts to wonder: ‘didn’t I already see this scene once ore twice?’.  Too bad, because the film had some ingredients to make it really stand out.
