L’Amant Double
(France, directed by François Ozon)
François Ozon is without a doubt the most prolific and versatile filmmaker you’re likely to find these days. The man releases a movie every year. Movies that couldn’t differ more from each other. His previous effort Frantz (2016) was a sweeping, black and white melodrama taking place during WW1’s aftermath. L’Amant Double, his latest, is an erotic thriller in the best 1990’s tradition with a pinch of Hitckcockian mindf*ckery. It tells the story of a disturbed woman beginning an affair with her handsome shrink. So far so good, until she discovers there’s a secret twin brother too, who also happens to be a psychotherapist. If you’re up for some superior camp, you’re going to love L’Amant Double.
