Ingrid Goes West

Ingrid Goes West isn’t the first movie about social media, but it’s definitely the best. Meet Ingrid Thorburn, a young Midwestern girl with a history of (online) stalking. When Ingrid inherits a considerable amount of money, she decides to move to Los Angeles and follow the tracks of Taylor Sloane (brilliantly played by Elizabeth Olsen), an influential Instagrammer she’s become obsessed with. Ingrid soon befriends Taylor in real life, but in order to maintain this friendship, she has to set up an intricate web of lies, both online and offline. Darkly funny and at the same time very frightening, Ingrid Goes West shows the ominous side effects of social media.
