No one quite knows how to portray a city like creator/writer David Simon. Through watching The Wire, we thought we knew Baltimore as good as people actually living there. Treme was a spot-on depiction of post-Katrina New Orleans. Together with his regular collaborator George Pelecanos, Simon recreated a brilliant new world; the New York porn industry of the 1970’s. Deploying a large ensemble cast, The Deuce is a highly atmospheric, narratively loose portrait of a city on the verge of (moral) bankruptcy, inhabited by colorful bunch of pimps, hookers and porn stars.
