2018 in Film: the 15 best movies of the year

Roma

(Mexico, directed by Alfonso Cuarón)

A year in the life of a well-off middle-class Mexican family in 1970, seen through the eyes of a sweet-natured, troubled maid. Director Cuarón has made his most autobiographical movie to date, and what a sprawling, heart breaking, visually overwhelming and technically impressive masterpiece it is! Produced by Netflix, the director got all the artistic freedom he asked for. Cinephiles around the globe; make sure you watch this on the big screen though.
