2018 in Film: the 15 best movies of the year

Widows

(United Kingdom/United States, directed by Steve McQueen)

5 years after his heart-wrenching  slavery drama 12 Years a Slave, video artist/director Steve McQueen returns with a killer heist movie. Now of course, McQueen wouldn’t be McQueen if he didn’t add a few ( a lot) references to contemporary problems in American society. Based on the mini-series from the 80’s, the film focusses on three women that are left behind after their husbands died in a robbery-gone-wrong.
