Suspiria
(Italy/USA, directed by Luca Guadagnino)
Speaking of versatility; less than a year after the release of sun-drenched gay romance Call Me By Your Name, Italian director Guadagnino is back with a sombre, bloody remake of one of the most beloved giallo films of all time. The story about an American girl joining a sinister dance academy in Germany is kind of the same, but Guadagnino’s version has better actors (Tilda Swinton playing three characters!), a better score (Radiohead’s Thom Yorke) and a way more ambitious scope. Whether you like it more than the 1977 original is up to you, but this film is sure to stir you up in some way.
