Xavier Dolan (Canada, 1989)
Mostly called the wunderkind of Canada (for a reason), Xavier Dolan is aged 24 (as old as myself goddammit) and has almost finished six feature films. His decent ‘gay thriller’ Tom à la ferme [Tom at the Farm] (2013) is just being distributed and he’s already working on two other future films, Mommy (2014) and The Death and Life of John F. Donovan (2015). In that first one, Anne Dorval will again portray a distressed mother, like she did in Dolan’s debut, the impressive J’ai tué ma mère [I Killed My Mother] (2009).
Les amours imaginaires [Heartbeats] (2010) and Laurence Anyways (2012), both wonderful, were more about the difficulties of being an ‘LGBT’ and gave interesting perspectives on sex, love and relationships.
