Antonio Campos (USA, 1983)

Before his superfriendly role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Ezra Miller played some very sick roles as well, namely in We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) and Antonio Campos’ genious Afterschool (2008). In that last one, two sisters get mysteriously murdered on the school of Ezra Miller’s character. While everybody’s mourning, he makes a memorial video for the dead twin girls, which is so wrong but brilliantly done and awkwardly funny at the same time. And as dry as a Todd Solondz scène.

American Antonio Campos’ second feature film, Simon Killer (2012) is a strange, unsettling movie about a guy who, after breaking up with his girlfriend, goes to Paris and starts a new relationship with a nice prostitute. It begins with a perfect atmosphere, visualized in a peculiar manner, which gives away Campos’ brilliance as a filmmaker. Simon seems to get his thing together again but then… the situation all gets out of hand really.
