Taxi (04-09-2015, 82 minutes))

Now this one will definitely be an interesting one. Iranian film maker Jafar Panahi (who produced, wrote and directed this film besides playing the lead role) made this film despite being banned from making films for twenty years. The film was shot in extreme secrecy and takes entirely place in a taxi. While driving through Teheran, Panahi talks with a broad diversity of people. Through these dialogues between the taxi driver (Panahi himself) and the passengers a portrait of modern day Teheran is drawn. The film won the Golden Bear (Best Film) at the 2015 Berlinale. Panahi wasn’t there to collect his award though; he wasn’t allowed to leave the country for obvious reasons.

Muhammad: The Messenger of God (29-08-2015, 178 minutes))

Director Majid Majidi is one of Iran’s most beloved directors internationally. His modest scale films like The Children of Heaven (1997) and The Color of Paradise (1999)won numerous awards and even landed him an Oscar nomination. With Muhammad, he’s up for something way more epic though. This should be the first part of what is to become a nine hour trilogy on the life of the Prophet. This part, which should be out some time in 2015, focusses on Muhammad’s youth. The film was shot on various locations around the world, including a collossal set which Majidi had built.
