Gravity (2013)
Cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki
Directed by Alfonso Cuaron
Is it a great film? I’m leaning towards no. But in terms of cinematography it was incredible. Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity was awarded with a staggering 7 Oscars, and the one for best cinematography was by far the most well deserved. Like for Cuaron’s other hit film, the much better sci-fi thriller Children of Men, the director of photography was Emmanuel Lubezki. I have already discussed him regarding his work on The Tree of Life and To the Wonder, but he is the person carrying Gravity and making it a film to remember. The constantly circling camerawork was magical.
We have got six more visually attractive and innovative films to go. They demonstrate that 2013 was a good year when it comes to cinematography.
