There he is again, van Hoytema. With Her he once again reinvented himself. It is no so much that the film is visually spectacular, but atmospherically it is spot-on, and he clearly knows how to adjust himself to the director he is working with. In this case it was with the master of metamodernism, Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation), who like Wes Anderson has a very strong sense of style. This must also be the reason why directors love working with Hoytema – he is able to give them exactly what they want, which is a rare talent.
