Paolo Sorrentino has always been a popular director, but this Italian film is his most famous work by far. After winning the Academy Award for best foreign film in 2014, its popularity has only grown, and now the whole world is admiring the stellar cinematography. It was in the hands of Luca Bigazzi whose trademark of continuously moving camera’s with simultaneous tilting and panning is always clearly recognizable in Sorrentino films. Just have a look at Il Divo (2008) and you can see his touch, but in La Grande Belezza he has truly perfected his craft.
