The final days of the year are approaching and so is the end of this decade. Time to look back and round up this year in film. Like every year, we try to be as varied as possible. We cherry-picked horror flicks, foreign films, blockbusters and whatnot to give you an idea of what 2019 had to offer. Some titles might be obvious, whereas others films might have flown completely under your radar. Enjoy!
Ruben Brandt, Collector
(Hungary, directed by Milorad Krstic)
A highly inventive (and energetic!) animation movie about a psychologist with a strange urge. In order to get rid of his horrible nightmares, he and his weird squad of patients travel the world of art museums to steal those paintings that haunt him in his sleep. The visual style of ‘Ruben Brandt’, which is very colorful and expressionist, is overwhelming. The heist story is fun and stuffed to the max with references to art, film and history. Think of a mix between Hitchcock, Picasso, Freud’s psycho-analysis, film noir and 90’s cult animation series ‘Duckman’, and you’ll pretty much get an idea.
