The Power of the Dog

Based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Savage, this period western centers around the brother Phil and George Burbank, maintaining a ranch in 1920s Montana. Their relationship becomes strained when George finds himself falling in love with Rose and getting married. Rose also has an effeminate son studying medicine, much to chagrin of the spiteful and traditional Phil. The brothers feud while coming to terms with masculinity that can often lead down darker paths. Directed with somber reflection by Jane Campion (The Piano), this western drama stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Thomasin McKenzie, Genevieve Lemon, Keith Carradine, and Frances Conroy.
