4.The Missing (2014)
Created by Jack Williams and Harry Williams
During the start of a vacation in France, an English couple loses their only son. In the search that follows, the father becomes an obsessed, heavily drinking man, whilst the mother tries to find closure and tries to go on with her life.
BBC’s The Missing’s theme is not very original – movies and series on child abduction are not uncommon. Moreover, the plot doesn’t excel in originality either. What makes The Missing a good show is the narration. The story switches back and forth between 2006, in which the disappearance took place, and 2014. Both storylines are fairly captivating, and amount to the desire the show to discover what happened quite quickly. The Missing thickens the plot in all the right ways.
